Copana Partners is an investment & advisory firm created to take advantage of international investment opportunities. Copana has a network of investors, both private and institutional, which rely on the company to find and create investment opportunities through our companies and funds.
The firm is separated into different divisions. The real estate division invests in real estate development and rehabilitation projects in Spain. In 2004, Copana successfully completed a leveraged buyout of a Spanish property company.
Copana has an advisory division that helps companies with consulting, financing & recapitalizations, financial modeling, business plan development, and encountering debt and equity capital through private placements, venture capital, and bank institutions.
Another investment division controlled the exclusive rights to Tootsie Roll® products in Spain, Portugal and Morocco and launched the products in those countries. Tootsie Roll is the largest producer of lollipops in the world. Brands include Tootsie Roll®, Tootsie Pop®, Charms®, Charms Blow Pops®, Dots®, Junior Mints®, Fluffy Stuff Cotton Candy®, and a host of other products under the Tootsie Roll umbrella.

Michael Hammond, the founder and CEO of Copana Partners, previously worked on Wall Street for a division of Goldman Sachs (Spear Leeds & Kellogg) in New York City. As a principal investor for the leading investment bank and brokerage firm, Mr. Hammond invested the corporation’s own capital in various undervalued and/or growth companies. His primary role was to establish and manage major investment stakes in publicly traded equities. Additionally, Mr. Hammond was a trader on the actual floors of the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange, as well as NASDAQ.
Michael has guest lectured at several universities on topics such as entrepreneurship and international business. He has also been quoted in the New York Times regarding business entrepreneurial topics.
Michael graduated from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, with a double concentration in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management. The Wharton School is often ranked the number one business school in the United States and is an Ivy League school. In addition, he has studied at the renowned Spanish business school, Instituto Católico de Administración y Dirección de Empresas (ICADE) in Madrid, Spain, where he became fluent in Spanish.
